  • Air Conditioning Services

All air conditioners use the same basic technology to cool the indoor air. The refrigeration cycle begins when low-pressure refrigerant enters the compressor and leaves as a high-pressure gas. The gas flows into the condensing coil where the action of the fan dissipates heat and transforms the refrigerant into a high-pressure liquid. The indoor blower pulls warmer indoor air across the evaporator coil, and the heat energy is absorbed by the refrigerant. The resulting cooler air is then pushed back into the living air through the supply duct. Air conditioning equipment is available in three primary configurations including: Split Systems: A split system air conditioner has a separate outdoor condensing unit and an indoor furnace or air handler. Copper refrigerant lines connect the two parts of the system. Since the condensing fan and compressor motor are installed outside, split systems are very quiet. Locating the evaporator and air handler indoors provides greater overall efficiency. Package Units: Primarily installed on rooftops for light commercial and residential applications, package units combine the evaporator coil, blower, condensing coil and the compressor in a single unit. Package units are ideal for installation sites where available space is limited. Heat Pumps: Available in both split system and package unit varieties, heat pumps are characterized by their ability to provide both heating and cooling from a single unit. Heat pumps include a device called a reversing valve, which changes the direction of the refrigerant flow when the thermostat mode is reset.

In both cold and mild climates, an energy-efficient heating appliance provides warmth and comfort when the outdoor temperature begins to fall. A furnace or heat pump purchase is a significant investment in complex technology, and it is important to choose a heating contractor certified and trained in all aspects of heating repair, design and installation. Homeowners replacing an obsolete furnace with a new 90 percent AFUE rated model can save up to 30 percent on the annual cost of heating utilities. Heating Appliances In most homes or commercial buildings, heat is provided by either a furnace or heat pump. The selection of heating equipment should be based primarily on fuel availability and local climate conditions. Furnace: In furnace operation, a relay is opened when the thermostat calls for heat. An inducer fan is activated, and a valve opens to inject a precise amount of gas into the burner assembly. The gas is ignited by an electronic ignition system, and the burner heats up a gas to air heat exchanger. When the heat exchanger reaches the required temperature, the blower engages and draws heated air into the living area. Furnaces are efficient, reliable and require minimal maintenance. They are commonly used in areas where natural gas is available and competitively priced. Heat Pump: Heat pumps operate in the same manner as an air conditioner, employing the refrigeration cycle to exchange thermal energy. The primary difference is that a heat pump includes a reversing valve, which allows the refrigerant to flow in the opposite direction when the unit is in heating mode. Heat pumps are appropriate in areas that have a mild winter climate or where there is no access to natural gas. In certain regions of the country where outdoor temperatures are consistently near freezing, heat pump performance is significantly diminished. Lower outdoor temperatures rapidly degrade efficiency since the available heat in a given volume of air is substantially reduced.

  • HVAC Services

HVAC Contractors Houston TX HVAC contractors provide critical year-round services for their customers. Those who establish an ongoing business relationship with a reputable heating and cooling dealer enjoy the benefits of extended equipment life, lower energy costs and a more comfortable indoor environment. Preseason Tune Up To avoid an unexpected breakdown, furnaces and air conditioners require periodic inspection and service. A preseason tune up can be scheduled separately or included in a comprehensive maintenance agreement. As part of the service, technicians inspect and test critical components and calibrate the system to the manufacturer’s original specifications. Other services include a refrigerant pressure check, lubrication of all moving parts, cleaning the evaporator and condensing coil, changing the filters and adjusting the balance for proper air flow. Replacement No matter how well an HVAC system has been maintained, it will eventually need to be replaced. Whether this is due to obsolescence or repeated malfunctions, older equipment is costly to operate and may lead to health and safety issues. Modern air conditioning equipment is federally mandated to provide a minimum 13 SEER efficiency rating. The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a measurement adopted by the Department of Energy that allows consumers to compare the relative efficiency of different brands and models of air conditioners. Replacing an older 10 SEER air conditioner installed in the mid-1990s with a new 13 SEER unit can save up to 30 percent on monthly energy costs. Similarly, a furnace that operates at 60 percent efficiency exhausts 40 percent of the fuel it consumes as waste gas. A new furnace with a minimum Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating of 80 will use 20 percent less fuel than the older model while providing a similar BTU output. Repair Heating and air conditioning equipment is complex, and when a system fails, HVAC contractors dispatch NATE certified technicians trained and certified in all aspects of furnace operation and the refrigeration cycle. These service professionals use a variety of analytic and diagnostic tools to quickly identify the source of the malfunction. At Davis Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. our commitment to service is evident in our fully staffed service department and a well-stocked fleet of service vehicles. Once inside the building, our service personnel maintain a low profile and try to avoid inconveniencing the customer. Faulty components are quickly identified, and we only complete the exact HVAC repairs required to restore full system functionality. When the job is completed, the invoice amount will never exceed the final estimate.

  • Duct Cleaning Services

In general, homeowners are usually attentive to the maintenance and service requirements of their heating and cooling equipment. However, the air distribution component in an HVAC system is often neglected until it causes an equipment related problem. Regular duct cleaning provides several important benefits designed to reduce overall costs and maximize comfort. Improved Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): Several studies have determined that an average six-room home will accumulate over 40 pounds of dust per year. This is a normal process that results from the breakdown of fibers in certain materials. Neglected duct systems are a perfect breeding ground for mold, bacteria and other biological organisms that convert dust and moisture into nutrients for growth. Reduced Energy Costs: Accumulated dust, dirt and grime can substantially degrade HVAC system performance. Dirty coils diminish energy transfer efficiency, and clogged or obstructed ductwork can increase friction loss and restrict air flow. Extend Equipment Life: A substantial number of equipment failures can be attributed to excessive dust, dirt and grime in an HVAC system. If left unaddressed, debris inside the air handler and air distribution network can reduce airflow by as much as 50 percent. This forces the other components in the system to work harder and longer to satisfy the indoor load, which ultimately reduces the equipment’s operational lifecycle.

  • Home Performance Solutions

The Home Performance Solutions program allows homeowners to increase their comfort while lowering their expenses at the same time. Participants will receive: Energy Bill Savings: Average spending on utilities in the United States for a family of four averages to about $2,000 per year. A savings of up to 25% can be achieved with just a few small changes or a more complete energy usage overhaul. Improved Comfort: 15% of cooled or heated air may be lost to leaky ducts, inefficient HVAC systems, or other problems. This means money is essentially being pumped out the door into attics, walls, and other desired spaces. Making replacements and repairs will send the conditioned air back into living areas and allow a more comfortable temperature to be reached at no additional cost. Energy Conservation: Residential homes account for 22% of energy usage in the United States. Ensuring that a home is not wasting energy does not just save money, it also saves the environment.
